PALO ALTO, Calif., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The increasing requirement for high performance has enabled the penetration of higher bit core microcontrollers in various market segments such as industrial and automotive. With increasing demand on comfort and safety requirements, the automotive market is facing high levels of requirement for higher bit core microcontrollers. Industrial applications like energy meter and medical test equipment use 16-bit architecture to meet the requirements. It is likely that these demands will further increase the need of more higher bit microcontrollers to meet the performance requirements.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.semiconductors.frost.com ), World Microcontrollers Market, reveals that the revenue in this industry earned revenue of $13.7 billion in 2005 and estimates to reach $22.7 billion in 2009.

If you are interested in a virtual brochure, which provides manufacturers, end users, and other industry participants with an overview of the latest analysis of the World Microcontrollers Market then send an e-mail to Trisha Bradley - Corporate Communications at Email Contact with the following information: your full name, company name, title, telephone number, e-mail address, city, state and country. We will send you the information via email upon receipt of the above information.

"Microcontrollers of all bit cores are used in vehicles," says Frost & Sullivan Industry Manager Deepa Doraiswamy. "The 8 and 16-bit microcontrollers are used for low-end applications and lower cost vehicles while the 32-bit microcontrollers are used for high-end application and high end vehicles. Currently 30 to 40 microcontrollers are used in low-end vehicles and about seventy microcontrollers are used in high-end vehicles. These requirements are continuously increasing and it is highly likely that the count of microcontrollers in vehicles will further increase in the future."

It is not an easy task for microcontroller manufacturers to survive in the market by just providing the hardware. Qualified software is necessary to run the applications on microcontrollers. Simple user interface with convenient compiling and debugging tools are necessary to program the microcontroller unit. This has always been a challenge for microcontroller manufacturers and likely to continue in the future too.

"Semiconductor manufacturers can overcome this fear by providing qualified software support for applications that require them," says Doraiswamy. "The software support can include for the provision of compiling and debugging tools which would be helpful for programming. This helps them give time for developing new solutions for the new technologies. Also the software designs should be such that they could be easily upgradeable to meet the new requirements."

World Microcontrollers Market, a part of the AESR-26 subscription, provides an overview and outlook for the market. This study has been segmented into 8-bit microcontrollers, 16-bit microcontrollers, 32-bit microcontrollers and 64-bit microprocessors. This research includes detailed market opportunities and industry trends that have been evaluated following extensive interviews with market participants. Interviews are available to the press.
